How To Configure Netgear Router ?

Got yourself a new Netgear router? If yes, then this is the first step that you have made towards uninterrupted, lightning fast and seamless internet connectivity for your home or office. Setting it up might seem difficult at first. But do not worry as the scenario is totally opposite. The setup process is simple, straightforward and doesn’t take up much of your time. We’ll tell you exactly how to configure a Netgear router in simple steps. With this you’ll be online quickly and will be able to enjoy all your gaming, streaming and browsing easily. So let’s head to the main point.

Step 1: Accurate Placement

No matter how correctly you conduct the setup, if the placement of the router is incorrect, everything else will fail. So plot the router in the middle of your abode. This spot should be open and well ventilated. Do not try to hide the networking device behind any object like curtains and furniture set. Never keep the router in a box or closer to electrical and metal items.

Step 2: Connecting The Hardware

As the placement is done strategically, pull out the ethernet wire from the package box of the Netgear router. Take its one end and plug it into the modem. Thereafter, pick the other side of the cable and plug it into the router’s WAN/Internet port.

Next up fetch your smart device (computer/laptop) and one extra ethernet wire. Using this wire, establish a solid connection between the smart device and the router.

Now take out the router’s power adapter. Move its power pin into the power port of the Netgear router. Then move the adapter into the electrical wall socket.

Finally, start activating the devices one by one. First push the power button of the modem. Check the status light, it must turn steady. Now head to the router. Power it on. Wait for its LED light to show green/white color. At last, power on the smart device.

Step 3: Access Configuration Page

Now the devices are all active, so you can head towards the next step which is that of login. So on the smart device which is connected to the router, open the internet browser. Choose a compatible and up-to-date browser like chrome, firefox, safari, edge or internet explorer. Then go to its URL field. In it fill up the login address. It is http://routerlogin.net. You can also use the IP address which is http://192.168.1.1. As you fill this up, click Enter.

Now the login window becomes accessible but if it doesn’t then clear browser’s caches, cookies and history and then reload the login address into the URL blank. As you do so, the panel prompts you to fill in the login credentials. The username by default is “admin”. The password is “password”. With that click on Login.

Step 4: Follow Interface Prompts

After login, the smart setup window will open up. Thus you’ll start receiving setup prompts. You just have to follow them one by one for successful configuration of the router. After the basic setup is done, start altering the default SSID and password of the router. This is crucial for security purposes. Additionally, you must scan for pending updates as this will take the networking experience to the next level. You won’t face any connectivity issues, security concerns and moreover if there are new features introduced, you’ll be able to access them as well only after updating the router’s firmware.
