How To Activate Netgear Router?
Having a router not only at your workspace but also in your abode is quite crucial for fulfilling today’s vast networking needs. This is exactly where the Netgear router comes into play. Netgear offers a vast variety of routers that are suitable for different networking needs. But no matter which router you pick, the installation steps for most of them are identical. The setup can easily be done using two different methods. One is simple, which is using a Nighthawk app. The other one uses a web browser. We’ll be listing steps for both the methods. After going through both of them, you can decide to conduct one which you find easier. So without further intervention let’s get to the setup guidance.
Installation Using Nighthawk App
First of all unpack all the package components. Now bring the router nearby to the modem. Attach antennas to the router if any. Thereafter take the ethernet wire. Slip its one end into the modem and move the other end into the internet port of the router. Next up, with the help of the supplied power adapter, turn on the router. Make sure the modem is also active. Now just wait for the entire hardware setup to boot up properly.
Moving further, grab your smart device. On it download the Netgear Nighthawk app. The app is available for free on both the platforms that are Google Play Store and App store.
Now pair your smart device to the router’s network. For this go to settings of your device. Enable wifi. Now on the router’s product label you’ll find the SSID as well as the passkey. Use this and create a wireless pairing between the gadgets.
Finally, launch the Nighthawk app. Now the app will itself provide you prompts one by one. Follow them and finish the setup successfully.
Setup Using Web Browser
The second option is also easy and for this you need to use the web browser. The steps are as follows:
- Bring the Netgear router nearby to the modem.
- Take out the ethernet wire. Plug its one end into the modem. Connect the other side to the yellow internet port of the router.
- Thereafter take another Ethernet wire and use it to pair the laptop to the Netgear router.
- Now one by one power on the device. Start by activating the router. Make sure the modem is also active. Now wait for the power indicator of the router to turn stable. Then switch on the laptop.
- Moving further, launch a web browser. Go to its URL column. Into it type routerlogin.net. With this click enter.
- Now you’ll be prompted to fill in the login information. In the username column, using lower letter case type admin. Whereas in the password column fill up “password”.
- As you click on Enter, the Netgear router setup page opens up. Tap on Advanced option. Thereafter on the option of setup wizard.
- Move ahead and tap on the Yes radio button and then on the Next. With this the router will detect the internet connection.
- Now create a password, confirm it and then give answers to two security questions. With that click on Next.
- As you finish the above step, the congratulations page will be displayed. Again hit Next. This opens the Firmware Upgrade page.
- If the updates aren’t available click ok and the router is all set for the use.
- Whereas if the updates are available then tap on Yes and let the update complete. Once the router reboots, you’ll be prompted to log in. Do so and wrap up the setup.
